Frequently Asked Questions
- What is the difference between therapy and coaching? While I use many tools that are similar as a coach and as a therapist most importantly meeting people where they are and showing, kindness, curiosity and respect, the main difference between coaching and therapy is the accreditation. Therapists are licensed by the Board of Behavioral Sciences, adhere to certain ethical practices and laws and are mental health professionals. The work in therapy usually focuses on gathering information and integrating the past into the present in order to make sense of it. Coaching on the other hand focuses on goals in life and focuses on the present and the future in order to achieve your goal. If trauma or other responses or symptoms come up during coaching I will refer you to a therapist to work with you and we can still continue to work together on your goals. The work can be done in tandem.
- Do you take insurance or provide super bills? I do not take insurance. For psychotherapy I can provide a super-bill if your insurance reimburses for out of network therapists. All coaching services are private pay.
- How many sessions will I need and how will I know when I am done with therapy or coaching? Both therapy and coaching are processes that are not linear. All coaching services are monthly packages where the process of therapy is a longer one and meets weekly for a duration of time that is collaboratively determined.
